During last week’s Centre for Quantum and Society launch, we announced the creation of a white paper series: Quantum & Society – Lessons from AI. The first white paper, on stakeholder engagement, is available for download starting today. We asked 3 questions to contributor Caleb Mayer of the University of Tilburg.
On November 3rd, Quantum Delta NL launched the Centre for Quantum and Society (CQS). This is the world’s first centre of expertise for the societal impact of quantum technologies.CQS stands as a co-creation Centre where businesses, governments, societal organizations, scientists, and citizens come together to research and co-create ethical, legal, and societal standards. It aims at guiding the development of quantum technologies and their applications to the benefit of society, and boost social readiness levels.
A consortium by the name of LUMI-Q has been selected, by the European Joint Undertaking EuroHPC, as one of the projects to host new European quantum computers.
Our community members SURF and QuTech contribute to the project – which is supported by and ties in closely with the QDNL CAT 1 Programme – to build a hybrid high-performance computing and quantum computing (HPC+QC) platform.
The parties combine their strengths and work together with the consortium partners to enable a hybrid classical-quantum workflow between the high-performance computers of LUMI and SURF and the quantum computer of LUMI-Q and the quantum computers in the Quantum Inspire network. This will provide Europe with a powerful infrastructure to experiment with new hybrid algorithms and workflows that combine the best of supercomputers and quantum computers in one network.
The consortium’s quantum computer will be located in Czechia at the IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Centre.

The Quantum Internet Alliance (QIA), which is led by QDNL community member QuTech, publicly announced the start of a seven-year program to build an innovative Quantum Internet ecosystem in Europe. The aim is to develop a full-stack prototype network connecting distant cities. Below is a press release by QIA.
Q*Bird announces that Port of Rotterdam stakeholders will be able to participate and benefit from an untappable, multi-user quantum network for their critical communication systems. The start-up, a QuTech’s spin-off that will provide fundamental building blocks for the quantum communication infrastructure in the Netherlands and Europe, is the first to deploy a new type secure quantum network that can connect multiple users via a center hub in a cost-effective and scalable manner.

Researchers of QDNL’s community member QuTech have engineered a record number of six, silicon-based, spin qubits in a fully interoperable array. These advances will contribute to a scalable quantum computer based on silicon. The results are published in Nature today. This is a press release by QuTech.
During the annual event for the entire Quantum Delta NL community, which took place in Rotterdam this month, House of Quantum (HoQ) and TNO signed a collaboration agreement for the development of a shared Quantum Technology (QT) test facility. This facility will be realized at the House of Quantum ‘Elektronicaweg’, in Delft.
