Tuesday 6 July
QuTech, Quantum Delta NL and KPN present: A live program with demonstration of the next step in quantum cryptography, which will revolutionize online banking, secure legal and secure governmental communication. You are cordially invited to join our live online launch event.
What to expect
Witness the first demonstration of our next-generation quantum cryptography system. The demonstration consists of a variety of internet applications that will showcase the applicability of our quantum systems. We will be using the same fiber network simultaneously as conventional internet hardware.
Confirmed speakers include:
Dr. Joshua Slater, team lead Quantum Communication QuTech/Delft University of Technology
Dr. Victoria Lipinska, Quantum Advisor KPN
Jesse Robbers, director Quantum Delta NL
System demonstration by:
Remon Berrevoets, optics engineer, QuTech
Thomas Middelburg, optics engineer, QuTech
Dr. Ingrid Romijn, program manager, QuTech
Anne-Marije Zwerver, PhD student at QuTech

+ 30 minutes of networking
Quantum internet offers unparalleled capabilities in secure communication. Our system runs the QKD protocol; a protocol that ensures eavesdropping is not possible.
The full name of the system is MDI-QKD and, as the names suggests, combines two parts. The MDI (measurement device independent) means our system can connect many different users via the same untrusted central hub, without learning what the users send to each other. New users can be added to the network just by connecting to that central hub. The quantum key distribution (QKD)-part is the cryptographic method that ensures eavesdropping is not possible.
Our system is deployed with conventional internet traffic on the same fiber network. Also the system can be easily upgraded towards more advanced quantum internet functionality.
This demonstration will show a crucial step towards the quantum internet of the future. Hear from experts what this achievement of QuTech in deployed quantum internet really means and how we are building quantum internet in the Netherlands.
- QuTech: Mission-driven research institute for quantum computing and quantum internet and a collaboration between the TU Delft and TNO
- Quantum Delta NL: Netherlands’ national ecosystem for excellence in quantum innovation
- KPN – largest Dutch telecommunications company and provides the fiber infrastructure that makes this demonstration possible
- CISCO – provides financial support and the conventional internet hardware that makes this demonstration possible
