Press Release: Collaboration on Quantum Technology for Societal Benefit

THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS - The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, TNO, and the Centre for Quantum and Society of Quantum Delta NL have announced a collaboration focused on the responsible development and application of quantum technology.

The agreement marks a commitment to explore the potential use cases of quantum technology and foster its positive impacts. The collaboration aims to bring together policymakers, those applying and using quantum technology, scientists developing the technology, and experts on the social impact of new technologies in domains the Ministry is responsible for covering all kinds of sustainable development goals.

A Collaborative Approach to Quantum Technology

The collaboration will identify problems that the different working agencies of the Ministry could address with the near-future usage of quantum computing, sensing, and communication. The approach also involves organizing a broad group of stakeholders, including citizens, companies, government agencies, and scientists, to engage in a dialogue.

The outcomes of these discussions may include measures within the technology itself but may also encompass adjustments in the context or improvements in the use of the technology. This collaborative approach ensures that the development of quantum technology is inclusive and beneficial for all.

Quantum for Good: Harnessing Quantum Technology for a Better Future

The ‘Quantum for Good’ initiative believes that quantum technology should serve society. By involving a diverse group of stakeholders early on in the development process, the initiative ensures that the benefits of quantum technology are widespread and its potential risks are minimized.

The Centre for Quantum and Society is a knowledge and co-creation center dedicated to maximizing the positive impact of quantum technologies on society.
