QDNL Celebrates World Quantum Day in Twente

A National Highlight in the International Year of Quantum

On April 14, 2025, Quantum Delta NL proudly joined forces with the University of Twente, MESA+, and national partners to mark World Quantum Day with a day-long celebration that showcased the promise and potential of quantum technology in the Netherlands.

Held at the University of Twente, the event brought together scientists, students, policymakers, industry leaders, and the public to explore how quantum is shaping our shared future. The programme offered something for everyone — from hands-on workshops and student-led experiments to inspiring lectures and immersive exhibitions.

“World Quantum Day in Twente was a powerful reminder of how far we've come — and how important it is to bring the entire ecosystem along on this journey. From students and scientists to policymakers and the public, quantum innovation thrives when we connect across disciplines and generations. Events like these help turn awareness into inspiration, and inspiration into impact.”

Philippe Bouyer,Chair, QDNL

A standout moment of the day was the evening programme, Quantum for Everyone, attended by Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. The event featured a theatrical science lecture followed by hands-on quantum experiments — engaging all ages in the wonder of quantum physics and underlining the importance of public understanding and education in this fast-moving field.

“This day formed a showcase of everything Quantum Delta NL is about. With this unique evening programme, we aimed to introduce a younger generation to the topic while also opening doors to societal dialogue around quantum.”

Lennart de Vreede,Impact Development Manager at the University of Twente

As the public-private foundation driving the Dutch quantum ecosystem, Quantum Delta NL remains committed to building international collaborations and accelerating the development of quantum technologies in the Netherlands and beyond.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us in Twente to celebrate science, spark curiosity, and help shape a quantum future — together.
