Quantum Communications Testbed NL (QuCT NL) in Eindhoven

A big step for the future of secure communication: the Quantum Communications Testbed NL (QuCT NL) has officially launched in Eindhoven on the 26th August, 2025.

QuCT NL incorporates all the elements needed to secure communications against future attacks enabled by quantum computers. This new testbed is an infrastructure where researchers, companies, and partners can experiment with quantum-safe communication. Why is this important? Because quantum computers will one day be able to crack our current encryption. With this testbed, we can start building and testing tomorrow's solutions.

For non-experts: think of QuCT NL as a security laboratory for the internet of the future. It ensures that tomorrow’s data – from banks to cars to hospitals – remains protected in a world with quantum computers.

The tour in the heart of the Quantum Communications Testbed NL and the labs at TU/e delivered some insights on the state-of-the-art equipment for quantum secure communications.

What you can do here :
- Test Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC)
- Collaborate with experts from science and industry
- Validate new technologies in a real-world network

The newly launched Quantum Communications Testbed NL positions QuCT NL and TU/e as key facilities within the Netherlands for the development and maturing of quantum communications technologies and for the necessary integration between classical and quantum communications technologies.

QuCT NL provides test and verification capabilities from component over system to full network level and includes the necessary instrumentation. It also supports the development and testing of protocols for quantum-safe communications and of software for key management, network control and orchestration, and monitoring and telemetry.

This doesn’t happen in isolation. With partners such as Quantum Delta NL, EuroQCI, Eindhoven University of Technology, High Tech Campus Eindhoven, Automotive Campus, WeConnect Waalre, Connectie Brainport, and Eurofiber, the Netherlands is becoming a frontrunner in building the digital infrastructure of the future.
