EDITION 14: LEGACY

Admire unique light artworks, during the fourteenth edition of Amsterdam Light Festival. We will return from 27 November 2025 until 18 January, to illuminate the iconic canals of the city.

What do we leave behind, individually and shared?

Edition 14 is dedicated to the theme of Legacy – both large and small. Legacy can mean major historical or environmental events that have a lasting impact, but also the continuation of family traditions, shared memories, and customs. What will we leave behind? Which stories do we pass on? How do we want to be remembered?

Twenty artists from around the world explored these questions. Each of them translated their personal interpretation of what it means to leave something behind into a visual and spatial experience. The result is a diverse collection of light artworks: exuberant yet modest, monumental yet intimate. Together, the works remind us that our legacy is not predetermined. We have the ability to actively shape both the present and the future.

On 30 October 2025, over 1,600 children from Amsterdam primary schools participating in Education Project Edition 14 will experience a one-of-a-kind quantum theatre show, hosted by Rachel Rosier (EO) and Klaas van Kruistum (KRO-NCRV) and developed by QDNL and Qlabs. Through an immersive and playful performance, children will explore the mysteries of quantum physics - and learn how light itself behaves in surprising ways.

Their discoveries will then take shape as light artworks, displayed as part of ALF Edition 14: Legacy. In this way, the next generation’s creativity will quite literally light up the city, adding their voices to Amsterdam’s ongoing story.
