The Future is Not a Black Box

Anna Gimbrère opens Quantum Escape Room at the Next Nature Museum

PRESS RELEASE - Just as a few years ago we had no idea how drastically artificial intelligence would change our daily lives. We now stand at the beginning of a similar shift with quantum mechanics. But the key question is: how do we want to use this power for the world of tomorrow? As from 17 December 2025, Quantum Delta NL and the Next Nature Museum invite the public to experience quantum technology firsthand in the Quantum Escape Room. Science journalist and presenter Anna Gimbrère will be the first to take on the challenge.

New quantum technology forms the basis for super-powerful computers, unbreakable communication, and ultra-precise measurements. It will change our world, just as electricity, computers, and the internet once did. In the Quantum Escape Room, visitors experience what is normally known only from theory or science. Step into the heart of a futuristic quantum computer under pressure with your team. Only by working well together can you fully stabilize the system within twenty minutes while it performs a crucial calculation. By solving challenging puzzles – from tracking down escaped qubits to directing a laser through an optical setup – players encounter the basic principles of quantum physics in a playful way.

"Quantum technology will soon be as commonplace as electricity. That’s why we need to make it human, accessible, and exciting as quickly as possible.”

Koert van MensvoortDirector of the Next Nature Museum

Innovation in the Brainport Region

The Quantum Escape Room was developed by Quantum Delta NL, the national program for quantum technology, in collaboration with Sherlocked, the award-winning escape-experience studio from Amsterdam. The Next Nature Museum in Eindhoven is where the Quantum Escape is housed, fittingly so. All three organizations share the same mission: technology should not only be explained, but also experienced.

Eindhoven – with its strong international reputation in innovation, applied quantum research, and talent development – is the ideal location to introduce this new technology to a broader audience.

This Quantum Escape Room serves as a fitting finale to the United Nations-declared International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ 2025).

“Quantum technology will become a key technology with major impact in the future. The sooner we get acquainted with it, the better we understand what it can mean and how to deal with it. The future will not wait. You are the future.”
